Fort Bend Baptist Academy has received a $2,500 check from Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation in honor of student Rachel Fox, a softball player, winning the 2010 Greater Houston High School Athlete of the Year award.
“It is truly an honor to win this award because I know there are so many other athletes that qualify as well,” Fox said. “I want to thank my teammates and my coach. I cannot even imagine this year without you. This is the best way I can imagine ending this wonderful season.”
Fox led the Lady Eagles to state championship with a 31-5 record. She also set the state record with 1,585 strikeouts over her high school career. She has signed on to pitch for the University of Texas at Austin next year.
“Rachel is one of those kids you get to coach once-in-a-lifetime,” head coach Kelly Ferguson said. “Her work ethic has rubbed off and turned our program into what it is today.”
Athlete of the Week is a program sponsored by Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation and KPRC Local 2. An outstanding athlete is chosen on a weekly basis from a local high school. At the end of the spring season, the athlete with the best all-around season, as judged by the sports team at KPRC Local 2, is named Athlete of the Year.
