Volunteers Needed To Help In Stafford Resale Store, Assist Victims of Domestic Abuse

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

Here are some current needs:

A builders dream

Help a resale store in Stafford specializing in household and construction materials serve as a funding source for a local housing program that helps families achieve the American dream of home ownership.  If you are knowledgeable about retail sales, construction materials, or testing appliances, your skills can be put to good use in helping make the store a thriving success.  The store is open for business Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Be Supportive

Your help is needed in court for a United Way agency that maintains a broad array of services to domestic abuse and sexual assault victims.  Sitting in on docket calls and hearings at the Fort Bend courthouse along with case managers and clients, your presence will provide additional support to those attempting to end the violence in their lives.  Court sessions typically take place Monday mornings and sometimes continue into the afternoon.  If you’re an alert individual, sensitive to the plight of women and children impacted by abuse, plan on attending an upcoming training session.

Private pilots needed

Log some flying time while helping persons with serious medical problems. The regional chapter of a national pilots’ network is recruiting volunteer pilots to use their own planes to fly ambulatory patients in outlying areas to and from medical facilities throughout greater Houston. Flights are arranged to fit the pilots’ schedules and geographical preferences. Expenses incurred in the assignment are tax deductible.
