Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
Here are some current needs:
Comfort the dying
Death and dying are addressed by caring, dedicated volunteers in a hospice program serving Fort Bend and the surrounding areas. Working under the guidance of a community outreach team, you can be a friend and resource to a patient during the final stages of illness and counsel with family members after the patient’s death. Call today to register for an upcoming training.
Feed the hungry
Help box and distribute food for 400-500 people with a faith-based organization in Stafford that serves families in need. Groups and individuals of all ages are invited to help sort and box food items Tuesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Strong volunteers, who can lift boxes full of food, can really assist by placing those boxes in the cars of program participants on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Take the wheel
Living independently is a little easier for elderly persons in Fort Bend County thanks to an agency that uses volunteers to take them to medical appointments and grocery stores. If you have a good driving record, consider using your car or van to help one or more of these seniors run essential errands. The most pressing need is for volunteers willing to help out on occasional weekdays.
Additional opportunities:
- Be a bingo caller and bring cheer and good fellowship to residents of a healthcare center in Missouri City.
- Distribute flyers to the Fort Bend community on behalf of an agency that serves Asian women victimized by domestic abuse.
- Groom, walk, and play with dogs and cats awaiting adoption at an animal shelter in Rosenberg.
- Help price donations, stock shelves and assist customers at a new home construction resale store in Stafford benefiting Habitat for Humanity.
