Cornerstone Christian Academy, a private school in the Sugar Land area, has announced the grand opening of its middle school this fall.
“A sports program, fall retreat, electives, academic meets,” said Head of School Chad St. Jean. “All of these things, mixed with a great faculty and a character-building environment, will come together to give our 5th – 7th students a remarkable education.”
In addition to attending basic classes daily, the students will rotate through computers, health, P.E., art and Spanish weekly. Students will choose between advanced art, choir, band and speech/debate as electives. New middle school faculty includes graduates from Harding University, a former missionary and a teacher with a Masters in educational psychology.
CCA’s sports program will allow for competitive sports in a Christian environment. CCA’s program is open to non-Cornerstone students.
“We know that for a school to be successful, it has to have a strong sports program. We are proud to say we are heading in that direction,” said Athletics Director Coach Bill Moore. “If our basketball, football and volleyball camps were any indication, our sports program is going to be fun, challenging and character-building.”
CCA’s middle school students will be attending their second annual overnight fall retreat at Camp Coyote in Hunstville. Through new experiences in a camp setting, this retreat is designed to instill trust, skills and values in students that will help ensure success throughout the year.
In the spring, the middle school students will go to Austin to compete in their second academic meet.
“We hope through these unique opportunities, our students will grow in our four areas of focus – physical, spiritual, academic and social. We aim for a well-rounded and educated student,” St. Jean said.
CCA is hosting an informational meeting for parents of 5th – 7th graders Aug. 3 at 7 p.m at First Colony Church of Christ, 2140 First Colony Boulevard.
Cornerstone Christian Academy opened its doors in September of 2003. Having added an elementary grade each year, CCA will teach two-year-olds – 7th grade beginning in the fall of 2010.
