Volunteer Fort Bend Looking For Help At Free Dental Clinic

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

Here are some current needs:

Help staff free dental clinic

Professional dentists, dental hygienists, and registered dental assistants are needed to provide free dental clinic services for low-income residents of Fort Bend County.  If you have the appropriate professional credentials, consider putting your professional skills to use in helping to reduce the waiting-list time many of these individuals face in having their dental needs attended to. Weekly or biweekly shifts are available at a social service organization’s Stafford location.

Help the unemployed

Retired or semi-retired executives, managers, business owners are wanted as interviewers in a job-search program sponsored by a faith-based social service organization in Fort Bend. Working one-on-one with persons seeking employment, these volunteers conduct 30-minute job-interview practice sessions and then critique the would-be job candidates’ showing, offering constructive suggestions on to how to improve their performance when faced with real job interviews. This assignment involves just two hours a week, on Tuesdays between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Under your wing

Baby birds will be your focus when you volunteer in the avian section of a wildlife rehabilitation center near Hammerly and Beltway 8. Staff there will be happy to teach you all you need to know about the care and feeding of these feathered friends to enable you to nurse them to good health. Duty shifts are generally available during the daytime on weekdays and weekends year-round. (During the summer, evening shifts are also available.)  The minimum age to volunteer on your own is 18, however, young people ages 12 to 17 are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
