More Than 25,000 Without Power In Fort Bend

Thunderstorms with high winds have caused serious damage across Fort Bend County tonight.  Tree limbs and electricity poles fell to the ground across the County, but early reports indicate that the sections of the Rosenberg/Richmond area experienced the most damage.

As of 8 pm, Centerpoint Energy officials reported that 27,000 customers in Fort Bend County are without power.  Many of these power outages are in Rosenberg, Richmond, and the surrounding areas around the two communities.  The utility indicates that they have crews in the area and they are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

The electricity disruption has also caused problems for traffic along major thoroughfares.  Traffic signals were reported out along State Highway 6, the Grand Parkway, and U.S. 90A.  Some reports had trees toppled across railroad tracks in Richmond and Rosenberg.

Though not primarily a rain generating event, there was a report of a flooded underpass along U.S. 90A at the eastern end of Rosenberg.

Thank you for addressing this situation. No major news outlet had info. Practice run for a hurricane.
