LCISD To Show President’s Speech, Parents Must Opt-Out By Monday

The Lamar Consolidated Independent School District will record President Barack Obama’s Sept. 14 “Back to School Speech” next week, and play it for students during social studies class. Parents who do not want their child to watch the speech must write and sign a note to that effect, and give in to their child’s teacher by Monday, Sept. 13.

“No child will be penalized if their parent/guardian makes an “opt out” decision and an alternate activity will be provided for those students,” said a letter send home to parents.

The letter also said that the speech “will mention persistence, responsibility, and the importance of achieving success in school and he will challenge students to work hard and set educational goals for their learning.  He will also call for a shared responsibility and commitment on the part of students, parents, and educators in this endeavor. “

Wow. I’m sure all of these “concerned parents” have no trouble letting their children watch hour after hour of Jersey Shore and every stupid viral video that comes up on YouTube. Yet, if a Black man is going to be shown giving them words of encouragement, they would rather that their kids not get the message at all. If that’s not a case of being blinded by racism, I don’t know what is.

Didn’t the local districts do this last year? I have to congratulate LCISD for how they handle it. They allow the parents to opt out while FBISD requires a permission slip just to watch. Two different ways to handle optioning out that send two different messages to the community.

Why not just mandate to the kids how their parents should vote. Nothing more democratic than that.

Let the class recite after me:

Good leaders take people where they want to be but great leaders take people where they don’t want to be but ought to be!

      Where are our district leaders?

More public schools… patronizing rightwing nut jobs!

What next? Will learning who is currently our US President be “optional” for our Texas students? There is a profound reason that we rank so low in education… and good sense!

The students into politics will judge our presidents for his leadership, to help their parents to go out an vote on 2010 elections, prohibitting the students being left behind by their parents failing to go out an vote from previous elections low voter turnouts.

It’s a sad state of affairs that we have a president so bad that we can’t let our children listen to him, even if his message is stay in school. He can’t be trusted. I don’t want my children to think that he is not so bad, because they don’t know that he is bringing this country down. I don’t want him forcing his socialist views on our impressionable children. I hate that I have to feel this way, the office of the president and the man should be respected, I am sorry to say that it no longer is. This country was built on free enterprise not on big government. The government should serve the people and every citizen should have a say not only with there vote but there representatives should listen to the people that voted them into office not say “I know what’s best” and not even read the bills that their voting on and just follow party lines because the president wants it.
