Accredo Packaging Inc. To Expand Manufacturing Facility In Sugar Land

Sugar Land City Council approved on Sept. 21 a tax abatement agreement with Accredo Packaging, Inc. and API Realty, LLC.

The agreement will provide a tax abatement on new real property improvements and personal property for a planned 171,000-square-foot expansion of Accredo Packaging’s manufacturing facility in the Sugar Land Business Park.

The expansion is being designed for LEED Silver certification and will add more than $9 million in real property investment, $22 million in personal property, $1 million in new inventory value and a minimum of 100 new jobs to the community.

“The expansion of the Accredo facility will allow for increased productivity and efficiency which will ultimately benefit our customers,” said Janak Sheth, executive vice president and chief financial officer of API Realty.”We will continue to embrace the sustainable building concept in our current expansion so as to minimize environmental impact. We appreciate the partnership with the City of Sugar Land and look forward to continued success within the city.”

Accredo Packaging, Inc. specializes in the design and manufacture of flexible packaging products, having opened Phase I of its state-of-the-art, flexible packaging facility in the Sugar Land Business Park in 2009. The present facility, also designed to LEED Silver certification standards, was the first of its kind in the United States, utilizing traditional materials, as well as environmentally friendly materials.

The plant provides a showcase for the latest in advanced equipment and production methods, minimizing waste, pollution and carbon emissions, while utilizing 100 percent wind-generated electrical power.

The facility recently received regional recognition as a finalist in the Houston Business Journal’s 2010 Landmark Awards.

Some of the statements in your posts are just completely outrageous. Like,”amazing a company expanding and adding jobs turns into an attack on capitalism by the same people who demand universal healthcare while claiming to be conservatives.”

How is tax subsidized growth capitalism and where did the universal healthcare claim come from? I see nothing in these posts to support such a bogus response. And what is ‘conservative’ about taxpayers taking all the risks for these companies? Unless I’m guessing wrong someone is a stooge for these organizations and their political clique.

“How is tax subsidized growth capitalism”.

Its a known fact when governemnt stops taxing businesses and gets out of their way they usually grow, hire and expand.

“where did the universal healthcare claim come from?”

      from here, repeatedly, ad nauseum.

Just so I understand, you think taxing businesses is a good idea?

Most conservatives will disagree, simply because the business will do one of two things.
      1. Pass the tax onto their customer in the form of a price increase, 2. or cut costs ie wages. And we know if you cut wages it leads to low wage producing jobs.

Most conservatives grasp these simple premises.

It looks like you are a D.C. liberal defending subsidizing a few hand picked corporations with our tax dollars. The only difference is you are doing it here locally.

“..will provide a tax abatement on new real property improvements and personal property…”

Or did someone miss this part of the report? And just how is government getting out of the way, as you say, when they are picking the winners and losers. Nope, this is not a free market example and smacks of the Keynesian approach, which I believe you pretended to be critical of in another thread?

“It looks like you are a D.C. liberal defending subsidizing a few hand picked corporations with our tax dollars”

I’m a DC Liberal because I want government to step aside and not tax businesses?

          • NMA1 says:

No, you talk like a d.c. lib because you want government to pick the winners and losers…

“..will provide a tax abatement on new real property improvements and personal property…”

They aren’t providing these abatements to all medium to small businesses.

    • RonEarl says:

nope once again I want government to stay out of the way of businesses. Smaller government and less taxes. :)

      • NMA1 says:

So now you are reversing your earlier position and joining the criticism of the special treatment of a select group through such tools that increases the rest of our tax burden like the abatement above. Good for you.

        • RonEarl says:

no I am not. Show me where I did that.

          • NMA1 says:

Then why don’t you say whether or not you are for special interest treatment via abatements and other special tax avoidance schemes for certain companies over others, or not? It’s really pretty simple. Just state your position regarding special favors that shift the tax burden onto the middle classes.

“..will provide a tax abatement on new real property improvements and personal property…”

          • RonEarl says:

Show me where I said it.

Then why don’t you simply state whether or not you are for special interest treatment via abatements and other special tax avoidance schemes for certain companies over others, or not? Easy enough. Just state your position regarding special favors that shift the tax burden onto the middle classes.

“..will provide a tax abatement on new real property improvements and personal property…”

Do you think large elite corporations have more rights or some special privilege over the rest of us in order not to pay their fair share of taxes while the rest of us carry that burden? You must have supported the Kelo v. New London case too. Do you believe the constitution gives corporations more rights than individual citizens?

          • RonEarl says:

” You must have supported the Kelo v. New London case too.”
can you show me where I said that?

Some conversationalist. Doesn’t answer any questions and only responds with more questions. Oh well. Enjoy!

amazing a company expanding and adding jobs turns into an attack on capitalism by the same people who demand universal healthcare while claiming to be conservatives.

I’m happy when I see someone doing well in this economy.

As much as I like to see LEED certified anything in Sugar Land, I am personally exhausted with funding corporate bottom lines with my increasing tax dollars. Our EDC has taken “Capitalism to a new level by operating a feudal slavery system in the name of corporatocrazy at all costs.

BTW, if you want smaller government under our present corporatocracy, then what you are really asking for is higher personal taxes with unlimited corporate lateral and vertical monopolies.

This midterm election will need some informed voters, not a bunch of blind faithers.

  4. 1trueconservative says:

Other companies produce much higher paying jobs than a packaging company and they do it without seeking these abatements and special favors that cost the rest of us. Yes, capitalism is great if it is an open and free market, not cronyism, closed systems and special favors. If we can’t attract these businesses do we really need them? Many leave even before their long term abatements expire.

  5. RonEarl says:

“and a minimum of 100 new jobs to the community.”

I wonder if we can find out how much tax dollars these 100 new jobs will generate for the community?

    You gotta love capitalism.

  6. NMA1 says:

I just wonder where we can get a summary of all the abatements our county and city governments are giving out to determine how much is being diverted from the tax rolls that homeowners and small businesses will have to make up for?
