U.S. 59 North near Cottonwood School Road is expected to reopen by 5 p.m. today after an accident Monday caused an 18-wheeler to overturn, spilling a load of molten tar on the roadway.
Rosenberg police were called to the scene of the accident around 9 p.m. Monday. The accident involved the 18-wheeler and a passenger car.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken by Fort Bend County EMS to Oak Bend Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released. The passengers in the other vehicle were not injured. Details of the cause of the accident are still under investigation. Rosenberg Police and Fire as well as Texas Department of Transportation crews continue to remain on the scene at this time.
The main lanes of U.S. 59 North remain closed with traffic being diverted to the feeder roads. Cleanup and evaluation of the roadway is being coordinated by TxDOT and is continuing. Work is expected to be completed and the roadway open later today.
