In a show of compassion, Hightower High School English IV students recently collected more than 100 greeting cards to send to a Cypress-Fairbanks ISD high school student who is battling cancer.

English IV teacher Gwendolyn Tate-Smith initiated the card drive after reading about the Langham Creek High School student in the newspaper. Smith’s students collected a variety of cards, including get well cards, thinking of you cards, and hand-written letters of encouragement to help lift the spirit of the Langham Creek student.
The classroom project also sparked a similar card drive for the son of a Hightower High School staff member who is undergoing treatment for kidney cancer.
“This project allowed our students to go beyond their own school boundaries and community to support a member of the Class of 2011 who is battling a life-threatening disease,” said Tate-Smith. “Once the students heard about the Langham Creek cancer patient, they were eager to offer their support.”
