Local Organizations Holding Information Session On Adoption, Foster Parenting

Several Houston-based organizations are joining forces to help educate the community about children who need an adoptive family. There are currently more than 5,000 children in foster care in the Greater Houston area. Of these, 1,700 are available for adoption. The goal of this collaborative effort is to recruit foster and adoptive families for thousands of children and teens.

A Regional Foster Care and Adoption Information Session will be held Nov. 15, during National Adoption Month, at DePelchin Children’s Center, 4950 Memorial Drive in Houston.

An introduction to foster care and adoption will be presented from 6-6:30 p.m., and from 6:30-8 p.m. participants can meet various local foster care and adoption organizations.

Foster and adoptive parents do not need to be married or own their own home and there are little or no fees associated with fostering or adopting, according to representatives of DePelchin Children’s Center.

In addition to DePelchin Children’s Center, other organizations participating include: A World for Children, Arrow Child and Family Ministries, Catholic Charities, CPS, Homes with Hope, Safe Haven Community Services, Spaulding for Children, TexasMENTOR and others.
