Ridge Point Dedicated As FBISD’s 11th High School

Board President Sonal Bhuchar has officially dedicated Ridge Point High School, located at 500 Waters Lake Blvd. in Missouri City. Ridge Point is the district’s 11th high school.

Pictured at the Ridge Point High School dedication are (front row) Trustee Marilyn Glover, Trustee Laurie Caldwell, Board Vice President Susan Hohnbaum, Board President Sonal Bhuchar, Principal Tammy Edwards, Associate Principal Laurie Oliver; (back row) Assistant Principal Ricardo Gaines, Trustee Jim Rice, Board Secretary Daniel Menendez, Trustee Jim Babb, Dr. Timothy Jenney, Superintendent; and Michael McKie, Assistant Superintendent for High School.

The Ridge Point High School name is based on the history and influence of the railroad industry, which developed in the Missouri City/Stafford area in the 19th century. Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railways built the first operational railroad in Texas in the 1850s. The line ran through the northern part of Missouri City and ended at Stafford’s Point, which is now the City of Stafford.

The rail lines were instrumental in the economic growth of the area. They not only provided transportation to markets for crops and livestock, but also served as a shipping point for the Blue Ridge Oil Field and salt mine. The economic growth of the area led to people establishing their residences in the area and commuting by railroad to nearby towns such as Stafford’s Point and Sugar Land.

Tammy Edwards is the principal of Ridge Point High School. She came to Fort Bend ISD from Goose Creek ISD, where she served as principal of Gentry Junior High School. She is an experienced administrator and recently completed the Region 4 ACP Superintendent Certification Program.

Ridge Point High School is a 2007 Bond Referendum project.
