The Fort Bend Independent School District now develops the school calendar two years in advance to facilitate planning for the community and staff.  The Calendar Committee began working on calendar options in September for the 2012-2013 school calendar and has reached consensus on three draft calendars for review.

Parents can view a calendar development process presentation and the three draft calendars, then select their preference for one of the calendars and provide any comments.

To access the draft calendars, go to www.fortbendisd.com and look under “Quick Links” and click on “2012-2013 Draft School Calendars.” Parents can also copy and paste the following link into a browser to view to the draft calendars at: http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/calendar/2012-13/

The Texas Legislature has mandated that all school districts start no earlier than the fourth Monday in August ― no exceptions, no waivers. Therefore, the first day of school for the 2012-2013 school year will be August 27, 2012.

The calendar preferences will be taken on this webpage until Dec. 17.

Nevertheless…this is a great tool and a step in the right direction…welcome to the 21st century.

Having time off for Thanksgiving is an issue if you need to travel. I would suggest that FBISD do what other school districts do and give a week at Thanksgiving. Ultimately, it’s up to the residents in FBISD, they control the trustees.

Not really, not unless you’re a resident and a district vendor. THEN you’ve got say in the matter. Residents haven’t mattered AT ALL since Dr. J got here…

    SLfortbender,

You must be living in Lala Land, the district is requiring teachers to work in the summer, the 1/2 day semester exam schedule was shortened 4 years ago to just 2 days, teacher prep day was shortened from 2 to 1, teachers are working more days than they are being paid for, Thanksgving vacations has been shortened from one week to 3 days and 2 calender suggestions provide only two days, Winter break also begins at a later date. You are probably living on the planet Mars. The calender situation has been manipulated by uppper admin. and any feedback is ignored by the community.

I voted on calender 1 however I left a comment as to the November holiday for Thanksgiving. We are one of the very few school districts that have only three days off for Thanksgiving week when most others have the whole week. We should have the whole week off. Then calender 2 and 3 reflect less time off for the Thanksgiving week.

I think any calendar the school district chooses is fine with me. They’re completely above reproach in how they run all academic, athletic and financial aspects of this district, as their record has shown and been awarded year after year. With leadership like this, how could they possibly choose something wrong?
