Sugar Land Area Needs More “Likes” To Win $1 Million To Fight Hunger

The Sugar Land area is two places away from winning $100,000 and seven spots away from winning $1 million. Sugar Land is currently in 8th place out of 100 cities in a contest sponsored by Walmart in an effort to fight hunger.

Walmart is giving away $1 million to the city that receives the most “likes” on the contest’s web page. The next five cities will receive $100,000. Currently, the Sugar Land-Houston area is only 760 votes away from 7th place Dallas.

Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels is urging area residents to vote before the contest ends Dec. 31.

“There are over four million people in Houston and all we need is 24,000 votes to win $1 million,” said a representative of the organization. “Right now Fresno, California is in first place – and Fresno does not even have a half million people, in fact their population is only 427,652. Houston, we can top this.”
