Second Blood Drive Today For Injured Deputy

Due to what Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office officials called “overwhelming support” at their first blood drive for injured Deputy John Norsworthy, a second has been scheduled from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today at the Sheriff’s Office, 1410 Williams Way Blvd. in Richmond.

The first blood drive, held yesterday, had a minimum one-hour wait due to the amount of people who participated, and the Gulf Coast Blood Center saw more than 200 donors.

Norsworthy was critically injured in a car accident Monday night while responding to a call for backup.

The accident occurred around 7 p.m. Monday at FM 762 at Benton Road. According to reports from the scene, Norsworthy was trapped beneath his overturned patrol cars. Richmond firefighters used inflatable rescue bags to lift the car off the deputy

Norsworthy was flighted to Memorial Hermann in the Medical Center, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Norsworthy, who is married with an 11-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old son has undergone several emergency surgeries for severe internal bleeding using well over 100 units of blood.   According to Sheriff’s Office representatives, doctors believe they have stopped all internal bleeding and will begin the next of many medical obstacles.
