Rep. Howard Votes For Amendment Calling For House Committee Of The Whole For Voter ID

Following the declaration by Governor Rick Perry that Voter ID is an emergency item facing the state, District 26 State Representative Charlie Howard supported an amendment to take up the issue in the Texas House of Representatives.

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst convened the Texas Senate into a special “Committee of the Whole” on Jan. 24 to deal with the issue.

Representative Wayne Christian filed an amendment yesterday in the Texas House requiring it to take up Voter ID in a Committee of the Whole with the “same speed and resolve shown by the Texas Senate.” Howard gave the amendment his “full support.”

“Securing our free and democratic society starts with securing the integrity of our elections,” said Howard. “It is imperative that Voter ID is passed and that it is not subject to possible political maneuvering, such as what happened in the previous legislative session. I commend the leadership of the Texas Senate for taking appropriate action on Voter ID and hope that my colleagues in the House will do the same.”

Voter ID would require individuals in Texas to display valid photo identification before voting.

Where does District#27 Rep. Ron Reynolds say about supporting voters ID and paper trail ballot printers for our election machine usage? Its January today and GOP has pass Voter ID, already.

This is such a waste of time.

“Voter” fraud (i.e. fraud committed by voters) historically, are very rare events. “Election” fraud (i.e. fraud committed by officials, governmental employees or their contractors) on the other hand occurs quite frequently.

Give us a ballot we can follow….we would like the ability to have a recount. Either paper ballots or release the source code of the machines.

I’m not worried about the voters. I trust their intentions more than Howard’s and the “ruling elite.”

82 TEXLEG must ban private districts (CAD) central appraisal , tobe replaced with new public central appraisal districts, just as we have
an own a public road & bridge districts! A private district(FBCAD)has a set fee to charge our local gov. agency over 4% percent of its own total budget. Example; If FBISD or any city has a $100 million budget, thence FBCAD charge them $4 million annually. $100M X 4% = $4 M taxpayer fee to a private district known a Ft. Bend CAD.

  4. viewpoint says:

To secure voters rights the Texas GOP and Rep. Charlie Howard must ban paperless ballots, first! Texas must support voter paper trail(ballots) printers for all voting machines in use annually, to prove that each vote is counted properly an legally for all elections an justice!!
Failing to ban paperless ballots means that our votes are being withheld from being counted, effecting future an misleading into flaw of previous elections?

  5. This doesn’t mentioned the (approximate) 2 million dollar requirement that will be needed to educate the electorate…I believe in priority order, these dollars can be redirected for education and other under-funded mandates.

I don’t see much talk about the bill below:

H.J.R. 56 (Solomons) – Unfunded Mandates: would amend the Texas Constitution to provide that no bill enacted by the legislature on or after January 1, 2012, requiring a local government to establish, expand, or modify a duty or activity that requires the expenditure of revenue by the local government shall be effective until and unless the legislature appropriates or otherwise provides for the payment or reimbursement, from a source other than the revenue of the local government, or the costs incurred for the biennium by the local government in complying with the requirement.
