An increase in population in Fort Bend County, as indicated by the 2010 Census, will lead to additional representation for the county on both the state and federal level.
“It is no secret that Fort Bend County is one of the best places to live in Texas,” said District 26 State Representative Charlie Howard. “This increased population growth presents the possibility of increasing Ft. Bend County’s representation from two and a half representatives to three full representatives. This means additional representation for all of the great people that reside in our county.”
While many of the counties around the state lost substantial population, Fort Bend County remains the second largest of its kind in the area, next to Harris County.
Representative Howard’s district grew from 135,000 to 180,00 residents in the last ten years.
“I look forward to working with the House Committee on Redistricting as well as the entire Texas Legislature to shape Texas’ districts in a fair and transparent manner, ensuring every resident of Fort Bend County as well as the entire state an equal voice,” said Howard.

Excessive population growth isn’t always a good thing. Managed growth makes more sense and doesn’t negatively impact the neighborhoods and schools already in the community.
Exactly.
And as long as unincorporated Fort Bend and its MUDs continually allow developers to build these massive apartment complexes everywhere, the problem will grow worse. Stop expanding capacities to allow for more massive apartment complexes. Look at what happened to Alief ISD and Spring ISD within just a 10-15 year span. I hope Fort Bend and its MUDs really wise up and do whatever is possible to deter more apartment development, before it is too late.
Residents of the master-planned communities need to protest continued apartment development as well. The new “trend” of building apartments in every master-planned community toward the end is not a desirable or needed one. It’s done only for developer profit, but contributes to overcrowded schools, traffic, and shifts more tax-burden to homeowners.
