Suspects fleeing from Richmond police late last night crashed through a restaurant, leaving the passenger with broken ribs and possibly a broken back.

A 20-year-old Rosenberg resident crashed into the PapaMex Restaurant located at 1008 Herndon Drive late last night while fleeing from police.
According to reports, police were called to the parking lot of 140 Collins Road around 10:15 p.m. in response to several men fighting. The caller told police that the men were trying to leave the area.
Police stopped a silver Lincoln Continental, believed to be the car driven by one of the suspects trying to leave the area. Officers made contact with the driver, 20-year-old Rosenberg resident Jose Manual Diaz, and his passenger. After talking to Diaz briefly, Diaz took off and police began a pursuit.
Diaz drove the Continental westbound on Jackson Street crossing into Rosenberg. Diaz lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Avenue H and Herndon and crashed into PapaMex Restaurant located at 1008 Herndon Drive.
Diaz got out of the car and attempted to flee from police on foot. The passenger of the vehicle also exited but was immediately detained after suffering injuries from the crash.
Diaz was arrested after he was found hiding behind a nearby business a short time later. Both Diaz and his passenger were taken to Oak Bend Medical Center for treatment.
Diaz was released and taken to the Richmond Police Department and charged with evading in a motor vehicle causing serious bodily injury, a third degree Felony, and failure to stop and give information, a Class B Misdemeanor. Diaz was also issued citations for not having a driver’s license and failure to control his speed.

The passenger of the vehicle was not charged with anything. Diaz was taken to the Fort Bend County Jail for holding until bond is set by a judge.
