FBISD’s Technical Education Center Receives Donated Vehicle From General Motors Corporation

General Motors recently donated a 2003 Saturn ION to the Automotive Technology Program at the Fort Bend Independent School District’s Technical Education Center. The donation was made possible through GM’s Corporate Donations Program that assists institutions within the GM Training Network.

Pictured during the presentation of the automobile are Automotive Technology students Dustin Youngs and André Paul, Gary Lucas, Automotive Technology instructor; Doyle Swindell, Marketing/Public Relations representative with Ron Carter Automotive Dealerships; and students Caleb Echols and Oscar Benitez.

The network incorporates advanced automotive technical training with an academic foundation of math, reading, and electronics, and both analytical and technical skills. Students earn an Associate’s Degree while working and learning on the job, resulting in a solid education combined with invaluable work experience. Since 1979, GM’s support to these college and university programs has produced more than 15,000 service technicians.

Doyle Swindell, marketing/public relations representative with Ron Carter Automotive Dealerships, presented the automobile to the Technical Education Center. Accepting on behalf of the Technical Education Center’s Automotive Technology Program was Gary Lucas, Automotive Technology instructor.

“We are extremely grateful to General Motors and Ron Carter Automobile Dealerships for donating the vehicle to our program,” said Lucas. “The donation will help our students improve their skills in repair, maintenance and diagnosis of vehicle systems that are needed to pursue careers in the automotive service industry.”
