FBISD Board Candidate Will Withdraw From Race

Fort Bend Independent School District Board of Trustees candidate Kyle Brantley has announced that he is withdrawing from the race.

Brantley was on the ballot for West Side Position 1, currently held by Sue Hohnbaum. Due to the Spring Break holiday, FBISD offices are closed, therefore Brantley is unable to officially withdraw until next week.

According to information obtained by Fort Bend Now, Brantley entered the race when incumbent Hohnbaum was unopposed. After learning that Wade Watassek filed to run for the seat, Brantley decided to withdraw to avoid splitting the vote, “unwittingly aiding Hohnbaum’s campaign.”

For At-Large Position 4, incumbent Daniel Menendez is running for re-election, joined by Bruce Albright, Kevin Daniels and Rodrigo Carreon on the ballot.

For East Side Position 5, incumbent Laurie Caldwell is not running for re-election. The candidates running for the seat are Patsy Taylor and Jonita Reynolds.

So true Mr. Magee. It seems these days all we see is deception by our politicians and their lackeys. Good point!

Remember: Texas School Boards are extremely political. You better find out which candidate is in favor of raising taxes and building more Taj Mahals…and is “in bed” with the Superintendent and his cronies.

and BOT political fall outs are coming.

  7. DosCentavos says:

Personally, I see Brantley’s leaving the race as a very unselfish thing to do. There may have been other considerations, of course but ulimately, his leaving the race will allow Watassek to have the votes necessary to defeat Hohnbaum.

I haven’t seen any indications that Hohnbaum is interested in doing anything but voting with the majority of Board of Trustee (BOT) members. Is that what residents want? Another trooper that’s agreeable to whatever FBISD management wants to get done? We need a few more independent thinkers on this Board who won’t allow what’s PC (and what’s going to assist the District in the short-term) to defeat what’s best for residents in their neighborhoods.

Watassek, being from west side will probably be for a new High School for Telfair. Personally, I think that’s a good move. Until that High School is built, we will see continued shuffling of neighborhoods to compensate for Telfair’s growing population. Would you want your neighborhood to be one of the ones that is “shuffled?”

Rezoning more First Colony neighborhoods to Elkins, which is already overcrowded, is not the answer. The BOT is trying to avoid political fall-out by giving the decision making to a new citizen/staff committee to recommend a new approach to zoning. Specifically, what they’re trying to avoid is responsibility for moving Quail Valley to the under-capacity Marshall or Willowridge High Schools.

On the FBISD Web Site Patsy Taylor is self described as “Counselor” and Dr. Jonita Reynolds is self described as “CEO of CCCSA.”

    • FCCresident says:

Actually if you called her (her number is listed) as some have done you would get the answers. BTW, aren’t working for the Jonita campaign and for Ron?

  9. Devastating Diva says:

Looks like there is definitely a possibility of votes splitting for Position 4.

    • Golfin Buddy says:

I think you are correct, and the split wil go against Menedez.
      Time to “KATY-BAR-THE-DOOR”.

      • Devastating Diva says:

Not necessarily. Votes may be split which may allow Menendez to achieve a victory.

        • FCCresident says:

diva–you need to understand that in school board races the biggest vote getter wins. There are no run-offs and Mr. Carreon is supporting Albright while Mr. Reynolds urged Kevin Daniels to get into the race and is campaigning for him. How’s that for deceptive politics? I’m sure now we will hear a Levine/Reynolds denial as usual. Remember this? Just search this site.

Just search the site. Quite a bit here all!

          • Devastating Diva says:

Lets just use the number 100 since it is a simple number to work with. This is what I was alluding to:

Let just say that Menendez receives 40 out of 100 votes. Lets say that 60 people want Menendez out, but some are pulling for challenger 2 and some are pulling for challenger 3. Those 60 people may split their votes. Let us say that challenger 1 receives 25 votes out of those 60 and challenger 2 receives 35 out of those 60. Although 60 people wanted Menendez gone, Menendez stays in office because he has the most votes: 40 to 25 to 35.

It makes no difference to me who is endorsing Mr. Albright or who is endorsing Mr. Daniels. I am going to hear what all of the candidates have to say and base my decision accordingly.

          • RonReynolds says:

            FCCresident,

Please stop spreading lies. I didn’t urge Kevin Daniels to get into the school board race. The only person that I consulted regarding running was Jonita Reynolds. I’m not endorsing any candidate other than my wife for FBISD Trustee.

I wish ALL of the candidates well. The public forum will provide the public with an opportunity to hear the candidates views on public education and to state their respective platform. I hope that whoever wins will work to improve the morale of FBISD.

          • FCCresident says:

I’m glad you can count diva.

As for you Ron, you really need to better coordinate your lies with those nearest to you because that is the source of you pushing Kevin Daniels into the race. Remember politician you are supposed to be a public servant and not on all those big special interest PACs pushing their projects….Oh, and you forgot to say god bless you…

Now lawyer, please read the following and stop the BS spin. Only your lackeys believe you. Any other citizen can search this site to confirm all your LIES lawyer-politician:

“One ought to recognize that the present political chaos is connected with the decay of language, and that one can probably bring about some improvement by starting at the verbal end. If you simplify your English, you are freed from the worst follies of orthodoxy. You cannot speak any of the necessary dialects, and when you make a stupid remark, its stupidity will be obvious, even to yourself. Political language – and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists – is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind. One cannot change this all in a moment, but one can at least change one’s own habits, and from time to time, one can even, if one jeers loudly enough, send some worn-out and useless phrase – some jackboot, Achilles’ heel, hotbed, melting pot, acid test, veritable inferno or other lump of verbal refuse – into the dustbin where it belongs. ~George Orwell, “Politics and the English Language,” Shooting an Elephant, 1950″

Now let your wife run her own campaign. I’m absolutely certain she can do a better job than you and without your baggage!

The smart thing to do would be to listen to what the candidates all have to say before endorsing particular candidates.

  11. SLfortbender says:

I’m with you on Wade; I may end up agreeing with you on Bruce; however, I’m clueless as to how you chose Patsy over Jonita. Personally, I know little of either one, other than Taylor’s a doctor and Jonita is a politician’s wife. I’ve read some other comments, but don’t know how/why people are picking Patsy Taylor so quickly.

    • willajbt says:

      To SL fortbender:
Neither Reynolds or Taylor have stated their positions yet, so I am also curious as to why people are picking Dr. Taylor.

    • Devastating Diva says:

Does Taylor have her doctorate in counseling? The FBISD website lists her as a counselor. I’m aware that Reynolds has a doctorate in education. I’m just wondering why everyone keeps addressing Taylor as Dr. I would like to be in the know.

      • FCCresident says:

You need to call her. Her doctorate is in counseling and she has vast experience in schools and community based NGOs. Just call and stop campaigning for Reynolds diva, as you claimed not to be earlier…

        • Devastating Diva says:

Making assumptions simply means believing things are a certain way with little or no evidence that shows you are correct. Please do not make assumptions where I am concerned. I don’t know Reynolds’s viewpoints to campaign for her nor have you seen me type anything suggesting that I am campaigning for her. What you have seen me do is ask a question about Taylor because I wanted to know if she had a doctorate because people were referring to her as Dr. I was aware that Reynolds had one because it was posted in the comments section of another article. I did not know whether both had doctorates or if people were confusing the two.

I will see what all candidates have to say at Thursday’s forum. I do not personally like the idea of picking up the phone to call a candidate just because the number was listed on the FBISD website. I plan on talking to the each candidate at the end of the forum and will ask permission to call if I have any further questions. I’m not downing anyone who has already called, but that is just my personal preference.
