To help promote writing skills among students, Blue Ridge Elementary School hosted an Author’s Night that featured classroom examples of student writing projects, and a reading by published author H. Ferebee Shephard.

Shown with author H. Ferebee Shephard (seated) are (kneeling from): Gregory Hepburn, Baldomero Sanchez; and (standing) Karri Richardson, Kalyn Miles, Erick Davis and Ariel Metz.
Shephard, also co-owner of Bright Learners Academy in Pearland, read to students his book, “Dad’s Birthday Present.” After reading his book, Shephard invited students to share some of their own story ideas. He also reminded students to use proper punctuation when writing and to proof their work before submitting it to their teachers.
Following the reading by Shephard, families were invited to visit their child’s classrooms to read stories, poems, skits and other examples of their child’s writing projects. Author’s Night will become an annual event at Blue Ridge.
