The Fort Bend CORPS has been selected as a finalist for Aprons in Action, The Home Depot Foundation’s Facebook voting program, and now has the opportunity to win the grand prize of a $25,000 gift card from The Home Depot. Voting begins April 1 and runs through May 1. The finalist with the most votes will win the grand prize.
In working together, the Fort Bend CORPS and Team Depot volunteers partnered in December 2010 to demolish a dangerous and substandard home to completely reconstruct it using in-kind labor and donations from local retailers. This home was reconstructed for a low income family with young children in Kendleton, Texas.
“Being selected as a finalist for the Aprons in Action program is an honor, and we are so thankful for the recognition,” said Ron Castillo, executive director. “If we actually win the $25,000 Home Depot gift card, we’ll be able to help Mr. Wilson, a client and Navy Veteran, whose home was slated for demolition and declared substandard by the city.
“Building affordable, safe and decent homes for low income families, while eliminating blight, is the main objective of our program. So we encourage everyone to go to Facebook and vote for us.”
As a finalist in the Aprons in Action Program, each of the competing nonprofits receives $5,000 in Home Depot gift cards.
Voting runs from April 1st through 11 a.m. May 1. Aprons in Action is on Facebook at www.facebook.com/homedepot or www.facebook.com/homedepotfoundation.
The final percentages of votes for each nonprofit will be posted on The Home Depot and The Home Depot Foundation’s Facebook pages at 11 a.m. May 2. For more information and to view the program rules, visit The Home Depot on Facebook or go to www.homedepotfoundation.org .
