FBISD Principals Holloway And Vega Selected As Region 4 Principals Of The Year

Principals Deirdre Holloway and Lillie Vega have been selected by their peers as Fort Bend ISD 2011 Region 4 Principals of the Year. Holloway is the district’s Region 4 Elementary Principal of the Year, and Vega is the district’s Region 4 Secondary Principal of the Year.

Deirdre Holloway is principal at Blue Ridge Elementary School and has 16 years of service in education. She worked as an assistant principal for seven years, a teacher for five years, and has spent the past four years as principal of Blue Ridge. She received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Academic Studies from Sam Houston State University and a Masters of Education Degree in Administration and Supervision from Prairie View A & M University.

Within the past three years at Blue Ridge, the school’s Texas Education Agency accountability rating has gone from from Acceptable to Exemplary.

Lillie Vega is the principal of Hodges Bend Middle School and is a 34-year veteran in education. She has 25 years of service with FBISD, having first served as a reading teacher at First Colony Middle School. While at First Colony, she was selected as the Campus Teacher of the Year and a District Teacher of the Year Finalist. She has also worked as an assistant principal at Hightower High School, and an associate principal at Garcia Middle School.

She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas, Austin, and a Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration and reading certification from the University of Houston. Within two years of her principalship at Hodges Bend, the school improved its Texas Education Agency accountability rating to become Recognized.

    I want to congratulate Ms. Holloway, principle of Blue Ridge Elementary school on her outstanding accomplishment. As a former student of Blue Ridge it brings me great pride to see that the great legacy of academic excellence and leadership continues to exist in this school where most of the students come from parents of lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
