The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has completed construction of a meetinghouse located at 8333 Scanlan Trace in Missouri City that will serve hundreds of its members who reside in Sienna Plantation and nearby communities.

“We’re excited to be able to show the building to our friends and neighbors and let them see how it will be used,” says Mark Owens, bishop of the Sienna Plantation Ward – one of two congregations that will use the facility.

To celebrate the opening, local Latter-day Saints will host an open house for the public, slated for April 30, with tours of the meetinghouse from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. People of all ages, faiths and backgrounds are welcome. There will also be activities for children, gardening, family history and emergency preparedness workshops.  Light refreshments will be served.

The open house workshops and information will be available in both English and Spanish, as this Church building will house congregations with services in both languages.

“We are happy to be able to hold services in Spanish, too,” said Cristian Martinez, bishop of the Spanish ward. “This way Spanish speakers who feel more comfortable learning about the gospel in their first language can feel comfortable participating in Spanish services.”

The square footage of the meetinghouse is approximately 16,500 sq. ft. on an approximate 7 acre lot.  It consists of a chapel that seats approximately 300 people, a large “cultural hall” for sports and cultural arts activities, and various classrooms and offices.
