Wade Watassek, seeking to unseat Fort Bend Independent School District Board of Trustees Position 1 incumbent Sue Hohnbaum, says fiscal responsibility is his top priority.
The election is scheduled for May 14.
Watassek, a Dulles High graduate, currently serves as a Risk Analyst in the Financial Performance and Analysis Group for ConocoPhillips. He believes his “strong business background will give him the edge in the upcoming election,” given a potential $74 million budget shortfall facing the district.
“Fiscal responsibility should be a top priority,” said Watassek. “In light of the current economic situation, I believe we need a strong leadership team that has a clear understanding of finances, and how that figures into the mission of this district. If we are to continue to flourish, long-term planning is imperative.”
Watassek is a volunteer for the West Sugar Land Little League where he serves on the board and as a coach, his children attend FBISD schools and his wife has been a classroom teacher in the district for nine years.
“My community and family experience, coupled with my education and career in business administration, allows me to see challenges from the angle of parent, community member, tax payer and perhaps most importantly, business professional,” said Watassek.
Watassek said he is in agreement with “many community residents” that it is time for a change in FBISD. Watassek feels that open and honest communication are key to a successful district.
“Listening to parents, teachers and campus administrators while looking at the hard data in an effort to make sound decisions for the entire community is critical,” said Watassek.

you have my vote…as well as many in Fort Bend. Sue Hohnbaum is a crony. she is there to protect the interests of the administrators and their overly inflated pensions and salaries. Really, FBISD administration and the FBISD BOT has been a failure since Jenny came in. the BOT created these stupid programs and even tried to ram a stupid Global Science center. Who is this guy Jenny? how come he came with a dozen Cronies all paid over 90K a year! this is Tax payer money. And believe me, we in Sugar Land pay a lot of taxes…not for these jokers to live high on the hog…but for them to teach our children.
