Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
Here are some current needs:
Medical personnel needed
Family practitioners, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants are needed at a free medical clinic for low-income residents of Fort Bend County. Flexible volunteer shifts are available, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at a social service organization’s Stafford headquarters.
Stock resale shops
Accept donations and sort merchandise for resale shops in Richmond and Stafford that benefit nonprofit agencies serving low-income persons and abused women. Your organizational skills will help bring order to what can otherwise be a chaotic collection of clothing and household items. You’ll be able to select a weekly shift between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays or Saturdays that fits your schedule.
Talk with the animals
Care for dogs and cats at a southwest area shelter. Available assignments can include bathing, grooming, walking, and spending time playing with these animals while they await adoption. Volunteer shifts can be arranged for any weekday mornings or afternoons. The minimum age for volunteers is 16 however young people between the ages of 12 and 15 can volunteer with their parent or legal guardian.

- Art and dance instructors can help disadvantaged children through an arts program in Stafford realize their creative dreams and nurture their potential.
- Be a “Meals on Wheels” driver on your choice of weekdays for elderly shut-ins in the Fort Bend area.
- Help with receptionist duties, phone coverage, photocopying, and filing at a women’s shelter in Rosenberg.
- Lead arts and crafts activities for seniors at a health-care facility in Sugar Land.
- Peer counselors are needed to assist those experiencing an unplanned pregnancy by an agency that affirms life.
- Sign up for training that will equip you to distribute preventive medication to Fort Bend County residents during a public health emergency
