First Colony Mall, Memorial Hermann Southwest and Wellness Center-Memorial Hermann HBU will present Get Fit! Family Fitness Day featuring six hours focused on health and wellness for the entire family from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 30.
GameStop will be at Get Fit!, inviting attendees to try out Demo Your Shape Fitness Evolved, a new fitness game designed for Kinect on Xbox 360.
Attendees will be able to see demonstrations of Zumba, a workout for adults that includes a variety of dance moves. Boot camp trainers will be at First Colony Mall offering first-hand information about boot camp activities and providing information about programs. Instructors from the YMCA will be giving demonstrations of yoga and other fitness routines.
Visitors of all ages will be able to learn about getting and staying healthy from a variety of health-care sources, including professionals from Memorial Hermann health-care facilities. Attendees can take advantage of free health screenings, such as BMI/body fat screenings blood pressure screenings and bone density screenings, learn about sleep labs with screening questionnaires and educational materials, pick up information about Memorial Hermann Southwest and the Wellness Center, receive a two-week guest pass to the Wellness Center and sign up for an annual mammogram.
Each person who attends the day of health and wellness will be invited to pick up a Get Fit! pledge card and enroll in a year dedicated to better fitness, setting very specific goals and objectives. During the year, Memorial Hermann will deliver an e-mail newsletter filled with health-care and wellness tips to each person who signs the pledge card. Additionally, a representative will contact pledge card signers to determine how his/her specific program is progressing.
Get Fit! Family Fitness Day will be held in the JCPenney court. There is no charge to participate in Family Fitness Day and individuals of all ages are invited to attend. Individuals are reminded to come dressed for get-fit activities. Parents/ caregivers must stay with children at all times.
