Fort Bend ISD has announced the 14 District students who were named winners of the 2011 Science Engineering Fair of Houston, held April 7-9 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
The competition was sponsored by The Greater Houston Partnership, The University of Houston-Downtown, The Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, and the Engineering, Science and Technology Council of Houston to promote learning and the application of science and technology among youth. It welcomed students in grades 7-12, who represented public, private, charter, and home schools throughout the Greater Houston area.
Among the Fort Bend ISD students winners were:
Individual Awards:
- Neerja Aggarwal of Hightower High School – 1st place, Senior Individual – Chemistry (Project: Carbon Nanotubes Synthesis and Characterization)
- Shawn Jacob of Hightower High School – 1st place, Ninth Individual – Physics & Astronomy (Project: Sphere Velocity: Magnus and Surface Area Effect)
- Shreya Mandal of Hightower High School – 1st place, Ninth Individual – Engineering (Project: The Efficiency of Wireless Power Transmission)
- Michael Yang of Clements High School – 2nd place, Ninth Individual – Energy/Transportation (Project: Organic Dye Solar Cell – Excited Dye & Nanocluster)
- Jane Lee of Austin High School – 2nd place, Senior Individual – Plant Science, Botany (Project: Does Ethanol Affect the Delay of Flower Senescience?)
- Siddarth Guha of Quail Valley Middle School – 3rd place, Junior Individual – Physics & Astronomy (Project: Investigating the Mpemba Effect)
Team Awards:

- Saiesh Kalva, Rishiprotim Nag, and Brent Zhang of Quail Valley Middle School – 3rd place, Junior Team – Behavioral Science/Biochemistry/Medicine & Health (Project: Raging Rays)
