FBISD Lunch Prices Increasing

Fort Bend ISD lunch prices will increase by 25 cents for the 2011-2012 school year due to a federal mandate that will again increase the prices for the following year.

Under the Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, which is effective July 1, districts charging less than $2.46 for lunches are required to either gradually increase prices or provide additional non-Federal support for lunches.

FBISD’s Chief Financial Officer Tracy Hoke told the FBISD Board of Trustees at a budget workshop earlier this month that the district had not planned any price increase prior to the mandate.

The board voted Monday night to phase in the increase over the next three years.

Currently, FBISD charges $1.75 for elementary school lunches and $2 for secondary school lunches.

Starting the next school year, elementary school lunches will be $2 and secondary lunches will be $2.25.

For the 2012-2013 prices will increase to $2.25 for elementary lunches and $2.50 for secondary school lunches.
