Fort Bend Volunteers Needed To Officiate For Youth Athletic Leagues

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

Here are some current needs:

Let the games begin

Assistance is needed officiating at soccer, tee-ball, baseball, volleyball and basketball games at community centers in Missouri City and Richmond.  If you’re at least 15 years of age, you can help oversee these healthful, character-building recreational activities taking place on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings this summer in Fort Bend County.

Medical personnel needed

Family practitioners, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants are needed at a free medical clinic for low-income residents of Fort Bend County. Flexible volunteer shifts are available, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at a social service organization’s Stafford headquarters.

Train a guide dog

Raise a puppy for an organization that assigns guide dogs to visually impaired people. In-depth training will equip you to care for and teach a puppy that will eventually become a companion to someone in need of the dog’s services.  This assignment calls for responsible volunteers willing to integrate the dog thoroughly into their family lives and daily routines.  The duration of commitment varies but is typically in the range of 12 to 18 months.

Additional opportunities:

  • Connect with a homebound senior through friendly phone calls.
  • Help a wildlife shelter in southwest Houston answer an information hotline or assist with miscellaneous office functions.
  • Lead arts and crafts activities for seniors at a health-care facility in Sugar Land.
  • Peer counselors are needed to assist those experiencing an unplanned pregnancy by an agency that affirms life.
  • Sign up for training that will equip you to distribute preventive medication to Fort Bend County residents during a public health emergency.
  • Weekday, Saturday, and evening volunteer shifts are available at resale shops in Stafford that support local nonprofit agencies.
