A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in jail after he and a juvenile accomplish put a gun to the head of a 72-year-old man during an attempted driveway robbery.
Cody Wade Henson was convicted of aggravated robbery by a Fort Bend County jury Thursday. The Southeast Houston man was indicted with a juvenile accomplice for robbing a man at gunpoint in his driveway in 2009.
According to Assistant District Attorney Jeff Strange, Henson was 18 years-old when he committed the aggravated robbery in the Briargate subdivision on Dec. 13, 2009.
The defendant and a juvenile approached a 72-year-old man in his driveway at 5 a.m. As the juvenile held a gun to the victim’s head and demanded his wallet, Henson ransacked his pickup truck looking for valuables.
The robbery was thwarted when a neighbor witnessed the crime from his bedroom window and came outside with his pistol – firing two shots in the air. Another neighbor, hearing the shots, came out brandishing a shotgun. The neighbors disarmed the juvenile and detained both suspects spread-eagle on the ground until Houston police arrived.
The jury deliberated only 15 minutes before finding Henson guilty of aggravated robbery, said Strange.
“Apparently these two young men didn’t get the memo that the people in Briargate are sick of being victimized, but the defendant now has 20 years to think about it,” said Strange.
I cannot believe that this kid only got 20 years for this insane crime! I think we all agree that either we should all pay to have him incarcerated for 50 years for this horrible transgression or simply give him the DP from behind bars. (death penalty, or the other DP.) 20 years is what kids stealing candy bars should get, not armed robbery.
