Sugar Land’s 2011 median household income of $100,632 was 12th in a U.S. Census survey of cities with populations greater than 65,000. Sugar Land’s five-year average of $101,611 ranked 15th in the nation.
The results were part of the American Community Survey, an ongoing statistical survey by the Census and its largest survey other than the decennial Census.
Sugar Land surpassed the original Census estimate of median household income of $93,025 by nearly $8,000 for the past 12 months. The five-year survey also indicated that Sugar Land residents have an educational attainment of 57 percent for individuals with a bachelor’s degree or higher between the ages of 25 and 64 years old.
According to Development Counsellors International, business executives and site selectors put a community’s rankings as the third leading sources of information that influence perceptions of an area’s business climate — workforce statistics ranked second, while demographic information and quality of life information rank third and ninth, respectively.
“These are great indicators of our city’s economic strength and stability,” said City Manager Allen Bogard. “These types of rankings send out a clear message that the City of Sugar Land is a premier destination for business and quality of life.”
