Residential apartments with bars nearby means less drunk drivers. The farther you locate bars and liquor stores away from residents, the more likely you’ll have drunk drivers coming home from bars or going to liquor stores to restock. If they’re within walking distance, that’s less drunks behind the wheel. More likely, its mostly women opposed to bars & liquor stores because drunk husbands & BFs turn to abusive relations.

Cheaper if textbooks are in PDF format available as internet download. Kids can buy used laptops off Ebay, Craigslist or hand-me-downs from family relatives upgrading their old laptops. Textbook publishers & Apple Inc. likely giving $$ & generou$ gift$ (bribe$) to board members to influence their decisions. As usual, public too stupid and naive not to recognize the invisible hands of Corporate America enriching themselves at the cost of taxpayers’ $$$.

Given the district’s stance that this money is not available to spend on hiring more teachers, I’m in favor of this purchase. FBISD teachers seem overworked and burned out…anything that will energize the learning environment is needed. Anyone who has watched a child interact with an iPad educational app knows how engaging this technology can be, and it is difficult to find an iPad owner who regrets his/her purchase. Some parents have suggested that the district wait until longitudinal data are available about the effectiveness of iPads in classrooms, but by then, many of our children will be in college.
